A sump pump is only one part of an effective drainage system. While the pump removes water from around the foundation, the discharge line determines where that water ultimately ends up. This project in Mount Prospect, IL focused on extending the sump pump discharge system to move water farther away from the home and improve overall drainage performance.
Project Goals
- Extend the sump pump discharge system away from the foundation.
- Improve water management around the property.
- Create a more reliable discharge path for groundwater.
- Reduce the potential for water accumulation near the home.
- Improve long-term drainage performance.
- Sump Pump Discharge Extension
To improve drainage around the property, approximately 35 feet of solid PVC piping was connected to the existing sump pump discharge system and routed toward the northwest corner of the property.
Work completed included
- Excavation around the existing sump pump discharge line.
- Installation of approximately 35 feet of solid PVC drainage pipe.
- Connection to the existing discharge system.
- Routing water farther away from the home’s foundation.
- Creation of a more effective drainage path.
- Utility Protection and Excavation
Careful excavation practices were used throughout the project to protect existing underground utilities and minimize disruption to the surrounding landscape.
Work included
- Identification and protection of existing utilities.
- Controlled excavation procedures.
- Minimization of disturbance to surrounding areas.
- Safe installation of underground drainage piping.
- Site Restoration and Cleanup
After installation was completed, disturbed areas were restored to return the property to a clean and finished condition.
Restoration work included
- Backfilling and grading of excavated areas.
- Restoration of disturbed landscape areas.
- Cleanup of the work area.
- Cleaning and improvement of the existing discharge point.
Why Sump Pump Discharge Extensions Matter
Many drainage issues occur not because the sump pump fails, but because discharged water is not carried far enough away from the home. Even a properly functioning sump pump can contribute to drainage problems if water is allowed to collect near the foundation after discharge.
- Benefits of extending sump pump discharge lines include
- Improved foundation protection.
- Better water management around the property.
- Reduced water accumulation near the home.
- More efficient drainage performance.
- Long-term protection against moisture-related issues.
