This City of Evanston project by Tommy Pollina Landscape Co. Inc started as an unusable backyard with major drainage and grading issues. Before installing the Unilock Beacon Hill XL patio, artificial turf, fencing, and lighting, we engineered a complete drainage system using underground 4-inch PVC piping and integrated NDS components to properly control water flow throughout the property.
The project also included over 800 square feet of turf, a custom western red cedar fence installed on steel posts, integrated AMP® landscape lighting, and full design renderings completed before construction began.
Because when drainage is engineered correctly first, everything above it performs better, lasts longer, and works the way it was intended to.
A well-designed landscape is about creating outdoor spaces that feel connected, functional, and visually balanced. For this project, the property was completely cleaned up and redesigned with new hydrangeas, boxwoods, ornamental grasses, perennials, fresh mulch, decorative river rock, a natural flagstone pathway, and upgraded low-voltage lighting throughout the property. The front entrance now feels cleaner and more welcoming, while the side yard was transformed into a lower-maintenance space with improved flow and usability. At night, the lighting adds an entirely new level of curb appeal with tree uplighting and illuminated walkways, helping every detail of the landscape work together to create a finished and cohesive look.
