Landscape Renovation and Planting Installation Project in Deer Park, IL

Landscape renovation in Deer Park, IL with Hydrangeas, Roses, Catmint, Coneflowers, tree care, and planting bed improvements.

This project focused on refreshing and enhancing the property’s landscape through extensive planting bed renovations, tree care, shrub relocation, soil improvements, and the installation of a wide variety of flowering perennials and ornamental shrubs. The goal was to improve plant health, increase seasonal color, create layered landscape beds, and enhance the property’s curb appeal with a design that will continue to mature over time.

Project Goals

  • Refresh existing landscape beds with new plantings.
  • Improve soil conditions for healthier plant growth.
  • Preserve and enhance mature trees and shrubs.
  • Add seasonal color, texture, and year-round interest.
  • Create layered planting beds for a more natural landscape.
  • Increase long-term curb appeal and landscape performance.
  • Landscape Bed Renovation

Existing planting beds throughout the property were renovated by removing overgrown or declining plant material, relocating healthy shrubs, and redefining planting layouts.

Several existing Hicks Yews, Lilacs, Hydrangeas, and other shrubs were carefully relocated to improve spacing, balance, and overall landscape composition.

New mulch and compost were incorporated throughout the planting beds to improve soil quality and support long-term plant health.

Tree Care and Soil Improvements

Special attention was given to the property’s mature Quaking Aspen trees.

Excess soil was removed from around the root flare, compost was incorporated into the surrounding soil, and dead or damaged branches were professionally pruned to improve tree health and encourage long-term growth.

Additional pruning was completed on Viburnums and Hicks Yews to maintain their shape and improve the overall appearance of the landscape.

Perennial and Shrub Installation

A diverse collection of ornamental shrubs and flowering perennials was installed to provide continuous color and texture throughout the growing season.

New plantings included:

  • Arrowwood Viburnum
  • Bobo Hydrangea
  • Little Lime Hydrangea
  • Meadowlark Forsythia
  • Knock Out Roses
  • Virginia Creeper
  • Catmint
  • Alba Coneflower
  • Purple Coneflower
  • Paprika Yarrow
  • Red Astilbe
  • Maiden Grass

These carefully selected plants create layers of seasonal blooms while attracting pollinators and adding visual interest throughout the landscape.

Front Entrance and Garden Enhancements

The front entrance landscape was refreshed with new Bobo Hydrangeas and additional perennial plantings to create a welcoming focal point.

Stone pathways and existing landscape features were enhanced with surrounding plant material, creating a more cohesive transition between hardscape and planting beds.

Large rose beds were expanded and replanted with Pink Knock Out Roses and Catmint, creating vibrant borders filled with long-lasting seasonal color.

Why Thoughtful Landscape Design Matters

Healthy landscapes require more than simply adding new plants.

Proper soil preparation, strategic plant placement, pruning, and layering all contribute to stronger plant growth, lower maintenance, and year-round visual appeal.

Combining mature trees with new shrubs and perennials creates a landscape that continues to improve as it grows and matures.
