Existing asphalt driveway being saw cut across three garage entrances for new drainage installation in Schaumburg, IL.

Existing asphalt driveway being saw cut across three garage entrances for new drainage installation in Schaumburg, IL.

This drainage project in Schaumburg, IL focused on intercepting surface water across the three garage entrances and directing it into an underground drainage system.

Project Goals

  • Capture surface runoff before it reaches the garage doors.
  • Install a properly pitched channel drain across the garage entrances.
  • Direct collected water away from the home and garage.
  • Create a clean, stable transition between the new drainage system and existing asphalt.

Channel Drain Installation

The existing asphalt driveway was saw cut across the three garage door openings to prepare for the new drainage system. Approximately 50 linear feet of 4-inch channel drain was installed across the garage entrances to intercept surface water and reduce water accumulation near the structure.

The channel drain was pitched westward to direct collected water into the underground drainage system.

Underground Drainage Connection

The channel drain was connected to approximately 20 linear feet of solid 4-inch PVC piping. This underground connection conveys collected water away from the garage and home.

Any voids between the existing asphalt driveway and the new channel drain were filled and repaired to create a clean and stable transition.

Why Channel Drainage Matters

Channel drains provide a collection point for surface water in areas where runoff can accumulate, such as garage entrances. By directing collected water into an underground drainage system, the installation helps manage runoff before it reaches the interior of the garage.
