Fall Planter Planting & Seasonal Flower Installation in Arlington Heights, IL

Professional fall planter installation in Arlington Heights, IL featuring colorful mums, pansies, ornamental millet, cabbage or kale, and ivy.

This fall planter planting project in Arlington Heights, IL included the installation of two professionally arranged seasonal planters designed to bring vibrant autumn color, texture, and visual interest to the property. Each planter combines colorful mums with ornamental millet, pansies, Dinosaur cabbage or kale, and ivy to create a layered and balanced fall display.

Project Goals

  • Install two professionally arranged fall planters.
  • Add seasonal color and visual interest to the landscape.
  • Combine flowers, ornamental grasses, and foliage for varied texture.
  • Provide multiple mum color options for the client to choose from.
  • Create coordinated seasonal displays that complement the property.

Fall Planter Installation

The project included the planting of two fall planters, each designed with the same combination of seasonal flowers, ornamental grasses, and foliage. The arrangements were created to provide a balanced mixture of color, height, texture, and trailing greenery.

Each planter features two 12-inch mums, with the final mum color selected by the client. Available colors include orange/bronze, pink/lavender, red, white, and yellow.

The mums provide the primary seasonal color, while the additional plantings create a fuller arrangement with contrasting foliage and different growth forms.

Planter 1 Seasonal Planting

The first planter was planted with:

  • Two 12-inch mums, with color selected by the client
  • One ornamental grass/millet #1
  • One-half flat of pansies
  • Two #2/3 Dinosaur cabbage or kale plants
  • One ivy plant

The combination creates a layered seasonal arrangement, with the mums providing bold fall blooms, millet adding height and movement, and pansies introducing additional flowers throughout the planter.

Dinosaur cabbage or kale adds distinctive seasonal foliage, while ivy provides a trailing element that helps soften the edges of the container.

Planter 2 Seasonal Planting

The second planter received the same coordinated seasonal planting combination:

  • Two 12-inch mums, with color selected by the client
  • One ornamental grass/millet #1
  • One-half flat of pansies
  • Two #2/3 Dinosaur cabbage or kale plants
  • One ivy plant

Using the same plant selections in both containers creates a cohesive appearance throughout the property while maintaining the visual impact of a professionally designed seasonal planting.

Seasonal Color & Texture

The planting combination was selected to create a visually rich fall display using a mixture of flowering plants and ornamental foliage. Mums provide the dominant autumn color, while pansies add smaller blooms and additional color throughout the arrangement.

Ornamental millet introduces height and movement, creating contrast against the lower-growing flowers. Dinosaur cabbage or kale contributes bold foliage and seasonal character, while ivy adds a natural cascading element around the planter.

Together, these plants create a fuller arrangement with multiple layers of color, texture, and form.

Why Fall Planter Planting Matters

Seasonal planters provide an effective way to refresh a landscape as the seasons change. Instead of replacing larger landscape areas, strategically planted containers can introduce new colors and textures to entrances, patios, walkways, and other visible areas of the property.

A professionally designed fall planter also combines plants with different heights and textures, creating a more polished and intentional seasonal display.
