Drainage project in Schiller Park, IL with 6-inch PVC piping, downspout connections, French drain, and river rock drainage system.

Drainage project in Schiller Park, IL with 6-inch PVC piping, downspout connections, French drain, leaf guards, and river rock.

This project in Schiller Park, IL focused on improving roof runoff management and increasing drainage capacity along the southwest side of the property. The existing downspouts were connected to a new underground drainage system, with a French drain added to improve subsurface water management.

Project Goals

  • Improve roof runoff management.
  • Increase drainage capacity.
  • Reduce water accumulation around the property.
  • Improve subsurface water drainage.
  • Protect the surrounding landscape from excess water.
  • Provide a reliable, long-term drainage solution.

Downspout Drainage Improvements

Connected both southwest downspouts to a new 6-inch solid PVC drainage system.
Installed leaf guards on both downspouts to help prevent debris from entering the system.
Combined both downspouts into a single underground drainage line.
Installed approximately 55 linear feet of 6-inch solid PVC piping.
Routed the drainage system along the fence line toward the designated discharge area.

French Drain Installation

Installed a French drain using 6-inch perforated PVC.
Wrapped the perforated pipe with landscape fabric for filtration and protection.
Added river rock around the French drain to promote water movement and infiltration.
Installed a surface-access tee discharge assembly with a gravel base.
Created a controlled discharge point for improved water management and easier maintenance.

Future Drainage Connection

Prepared the excavation to accommodate an existing 3-inch PVC line supplied by the homeowner.
Installed a future connection point for potential drainage system expansion.
Designed the system to allow additional drainage capacity if needed in the future.
Why This Project Matters

Proper drainage requires more than simply moving water away from the home. By combining larger-diameter PVC piping, improved downspout connections, and a French drain, this system provides both surface and subsurface water management.

The new drainage network helps improve water flow, reduce accumulation, and provide better long-term performance around the property.
