This project in Long Grove, IL combined new concrete walkway construction with lawn restoration and landscape edging throughout the property. The work included removing existing materials, preparing and reinforcing the new concrete walk, regrading the lawn, installing sod, and creating clean landscape borders around the front and back of the property.
Project Goals
- Construct a new durable concrete walkway.
- Properly prepare and reinforce the walkway base.
- Improve grading between the lawn and walkway.
- Restore disturbed lawn areas with new sod.
- Add a finished landscape edge around the property.
- Organize and preserve existing retaining wall bricks for the homeowner.
- Improve the property’s overall appearance and functionality.
Concrete Walkway Installation
Existing materials were removed from the designated walkway area and hauled away to prepare the site for new construction.
The area was then framed and properly prepared before installing approximately 3–4 inches of stone base.
Wire mesh reinforcement was installed before pouring approximately 5 inches of concrete, providing additional structural support for the new walkway.
Lawn Regrading and Sod Installation
The middle section of the lawn and walkway area was regraded to improve the overall grade and create a more finished transition between the landscape and new walkway.
The regraded area was then covered with new sod to restore the lawn and provide a clean, established appearance.
At the front of the property near the street, existing rocks and tarp were removed and approximately 3 feet of new sod was installed to improve the appearance of the landscape edge.
Landscape Edging
Landscape edging was installed around the property using a landscape spade to create clean, defined borders throughout the front and back landscape areas.
The edging helps separate lawn and planting areas while creating a more organized and professionally finished appearance.
Retaining Wall Brick Organization
Existing retaining wall bricks were carefully stacked in a designated corner of the front and back landscape areas for the homeowner.
This allowed the materials to be preserved and kept organized while completing the new landscape edging work.
Why Landscape Edging and Grading Matter
Proper grading helps direct water and creates smoother transitions between walkways and lawn areas.
Defined landscape edging also helps maintain clean boundaries between different landscape surfaces, reducing overgrowth and creating a more polished appearance throughout the property.
