Concrete Patio, Driveway & Walkway Reconstruction in Lake Forest, IL

Concrete driveway installation in Lake Forest, IL

This project in Lake Forest, IL focused on a complete concrete renovation throughout the property, including the patio, driveway, front and side walkways, apron, front stoop, and steps leading to the driveway. The work included removal and disposal of existing materials, new stone bases, reinforced concrete construction, and replacement of a small retaining wall to create durable and cohesive outdoor surfaces.

Project Goals

  • Replace existing concrete and surface materials throughout the property.
  • Reconstruct the patio, driveway, walkways, apron, front stoop, and steps.
  • Establish properly prepared stone bases beneath the new concrete.
  • Reinforce the front stoop and steps for additional structural support.
  • Improve the property’s appearance, functionality, and long-term durability.
  • Replace the small retaining wall at the front of the property.
  • Concrete Removal and Site Preparation

All existing materials within the designated work areas were removed and disposed of to prepare the property for the new concrete installation.

The work areas included the patio, driveway, front and side walkways, apron, front stoop, and two steps leading toward the driveway.

Each area was properly framed and prepared before installation of the new stone base and concrete.

Stone Base Installation

Approximately 3–4 inches of stone was added throughout the designated concrete areas to establish a stable base for the new surfaces.

The prepared base provides support beneath the concrete and helps create a properly constructed foundation for the new patio, driveway, walkways, and entrance areas.

Concrete Installation

Approximately 5 inches of concrete was installed throughout the project areas.

The new concrete was installed across the patio, driveway, front and side walkways, apron, front stoop, and steps to create a consistent and durable finished surface.

Reinforced Front Stoop and Steps

Additional reinforcement was incorporated into the front stoop and two steps leading toward the driveway.

#4 rebar and small footings were installed in these areas to provide additional structural support before the concrete was poured.

Wire mesh was also installed throughout the project areas, excluding the apron and sidewalks, to provide additional reinforcement within the concrete surfaces.

Retaining Wall Replacement

The existing small retaining wall at the front of the property was replaced as part of the project.

The replacement helps restore the appearance and functionality of the front landscape while complementing the newly reconstructed concrete areas.

Project Considerations

Permit fees were not included in the project price.

As with standard concrete construction, the finished concrete is not guaranteed against cracking, popping, or flaking due to factors such as weather, ground movement, moisture, and other site conditions.

For Lake Forest projects, hardscape work such as patios, driveways, and related improvements may be subject to the city’s permitting requirements and hardscape review process.

Why Concrete Reconstruction Matters

Proper preparation is essential for creating durable concrete surfaces. Removing deteriorated materials, preparing a stable stone base, and incorporating reinforcement where appropriate helps create a stronger foundation for patios, driveways, walkways, and entrance areas.

A coordinated concrete renovation can also improve the property’s functionality while creating a clean, consistent appearance throughout the exterior.
