Concrete Driveway Curbs & Channel Drain Installation Project in Des Plaines, IL

Driveway prepared for new concrete curbs and drainage improvements at a residential property in Des Plaines, IL.

Driveway prepared for new concrete curbs and drainage improvements at a residential property in Des Plaines, IL.

This drainage and concrete improvement project in Des Plaines, IL focused on improving water management around the driveway and garage entrance. The work included adding raised concrete curbs along both sides of the driveway and installing a new channel drain connected to the property’s existing drainage system. Together, these improvements were designed to help control surface water and direct it away from the garage.

Project Goals

  • Improve surface water management around the driveway.
  • Add raised concrete curbs along both sides of the driveway.
  • Install a new channel drain near the garage area.
  • Connect the new drainage system to the existing channel drain.
  • Divert collected water away from the garage.
  • Create a durable and integrated concrete and drainage installation.

Concrete Driveway Curbs

New concrete curbs were added along both sides of the driveway, with the curbs measuring approximately 10–12 inches high. The raised edges provide additional definition along the driveway while helping guide surface water toward the designated drainage system.

The curbs were incorporated into the existing driveway layout to create a functional transition between the driveway surface and surrounding areas.

New Channel Drain Installation

A new channel drain was installed as part of the driveway drainage improvements. The channel drain provides a collection point for surface water and helps prevent runoff from continuing toward the garage.

The new drainage component was positioned to work with the existing driveway and drainage layout, creating a coordinated approach to managing water near the garage entrance.

Connection to Existing Drainage System

The new channel drain was connected to the property’s existing channel drain using PVC piping. This connection allows water collected by the new drain to be directed into the existing drainage system rather than remaining near the garage.

By tying the new drainage component into the existing system, the project improves the overall flow path for surface water around the driveway and garage.

Diverting Water Away From the Garage

One of the primary purposes of the project was to divert water away from the garage area. The combination of the new driveway curbs, channel drain, and PVC connection creates a defined route for surface water to move toward the existing drainage system.

This coordinated drainage approach helps reduce the potential for water to collect directly in front of the garage.

Why Driveway Drainage Matters

Driveways can naturally direct surface runoff toward lower areas such as garage entrances. Without an appropriate collection point, water can accumulate near the garage and create ongoing drainage concerns.

A properly integrated channel drain provides a designated location for collecting surface water, while the PVC connection allows that water to be directed into an existing drainage system. Raised driveway curbs can also help guide water toward the intended drainage path.
