Channel Drain and Driveway Drainage Installation in Elmhurst, IL

Channel drain and underground 4-inch PVC drainage system installed at a residential driveway in Elmhurst, IL to capture surface runoff and reduce water pooling.

This project in Elmhurst, IL focused on improving surface water management at the driveway by installing a new channel drain and underground drainage system. The work included cutting and restoring the existing asphalt, preparing a proper drainage base, installing approximately 40 linear feet of solid PVC piping, and creating a controlled discharge point to reduce water pooling and improve overall drainage performance.

Project Goals

Improve surface water drainage at the driveway.
Reduce water pooling and accumulation.
Capture runoff before it can collect in the driveway area.
Convey collected water to a designated discharge location.
Create a durable and accessible drainage system.
Restore the driveway after installation.

Channel Drain Installation

A section of the existing asphalt was saw cut and removed to create space for the new surface drainage system.

The area was excavated to establish the proper depth for the channel drain and its supporting base. A channel drain was then installed within a properly prepared stone and concrete base to provide stability and effectively capture surface runoff.

Underground Drainage Installation

Approximately 40 linear feet of 4-inch solid PVC piping was installed to transport water collected by the channel drain toward the designated discharge point.

The underground piping provides a continuous drainage route away from the driveway and helps prevent collected surface water from remaining in the area.

Surface Discharge Installation

A surface discharge point with a grate cover was installed at the end of the drainage line.

The grate allows controlled water release while providing convenient access for future inspection and maintenance.

Asphalt Restoration

Following the drainage installation, disturbed asphalt areas were repaired and restored as required.

The finished surface helps integrate the new drainage system into the existing driveway while maintaining a clean and functional appearance.

Why Channel Drainage Matters

Driveways and other paved surfaces can collect significant amounts of rainwater because water cannot naturally absorb through the asphalt.

A properly installed channel drain captures surface runoff at the collection point and moves it through an underground drainage system, helping reduce pooling, erosion, and water-related issues around the property.
