Existing asphalt driveway and apron being removed before replacement at a residential property in Evanston, IL.

This Evanston, IL project included a complete asphalt driveway and apron replacement, a new Unilock Beacon Hill brick paver walkway connecting the front entrance to the driveway, and updated front foundation landscaping with new hydrangeas.

Project Goals

Remove and replace the existing asphalt driveway and apron.
Install a new brick paver walkway and front landing.
Improve the front entrance with a new step.
Replace existing evergreen bushes with Incrediball hydrangeas.

Asphalt Driveway Replacement

The existing asphalt driveway and apron were removed and disposed of. The existing stone base was regraded, rolled, and compacted to establish the proper elevation before approximately 3–4 inches of new asphalt was installed throughout the driveway and apron.

Brick Paver Front Walkway

A new brick paver sidewalk was installed from the front entrance to the driveway. The existing dirt, sod, and concrete were removed, followed by approximately 9 inches of compacted stone base and a 1-inch sand layer. Unilock Beacon Hill pavers were then installed with secure edging and polymeric joint sand.

The front landing was also finished with matching brick pavers, along with a new 6-foot-long step at the front entrance.

Front Landscape Planting

Existing evergreen bushes in front of the house were removed and replaced with 12 Incrediball hydrangeas. Care was taken around the existing irrigation system during the planting work.

Why Proper Driveway and Walkway Installation Matters

A properly prepared base helps provide a stable foundation for new asphalt and pavers, while coordinated landscape planting creates a clean and welcoming appearance around the home’s entrance.
