This project in Northfield, IL combined a complete landscape renovation with targeted drainage improvements to enhance curb appeal, improve water management, and create a more cohesive outdoor environment. New trees, shrubs, perennials, sod, and mulch were installed throughout the property while underground PVC drainage extensions were added to help direct roof water farther away from the home’s foundation.

Front Landscape Renovation
The existing plant material on both sides of the front entrance was removed to make way for a completely redesigned planting layout.
A new Emperor Japanese Maple was installed as a focal point, complemented by Dwarf Quick Fire Hydrangeas, Pink Knock Out Roses, Allium, Peach Coral Bells, Stella de Oro Daylilies, Alpine Currants, and Burning Bushes to provide structure, vibrant blooms, and seasonal interest.
Existing Boxwoods were carefully relocated to the backyard, while mature Techny Arborvitae were professionally trimmed to improve the overall appearance of the landscape.
Backyard and Side Yard Landscape Installation
The landscape surrounding the patio, air conditioning area, and west side of the home was completely renovated with new plantings selected for long-term beauty and low maintenance.
Miss Kim Lilacs, Peonies, Gold Mound Spireas, Caesar’s Brother Irises, Stella de Oro Daylilies, Dwarf Viburnums, Penstemon, and additional ornamental shrubs and perennials were installed throughout the property.
Existing Iris plantings on the south side of the home were preserved and incorporated into the new landscape design.
Lawn Restoration
Areas disturbed during construction were restored with new sod to create a healthy, uniform lawn and seamlessly blend the new planting beds into the surrounding landscape.
Fresh mulch was installed throughout the planting beds to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and provide a clean, finished appearance.
PVC Drainage Improvements
To improve water management around the home, underground 4-inch solid PVC drainage pipe was installed at each of the four corner downspouts.
These drainage extensions help move roof runoff farther away from the foundation, reducing water accumulation and improving long-term drainage performance around the property.
