Winnetka Drainage and Hardscape Patio Project

 

If the water isn’t handled first, hardscape doesn’t stand a chance.
This is where most patio projects go wrong.

And the problems show up later—settling, movement, and failure.
That was the situation at this property in Chicago.
Downspouts from both the house and garage were discharging directly into the future patio area, saturating the ground and compromising the base before installation even began.
So we fixed the real problem first.

• Two downspout extensions installed using NDS components
• Subsurface solid PVC system added to redirect water away from the structure
• Full excavation and installation of a properly compacted stone base
• Sand setting bed with Unilock Hollandstone River pavers
• Edging secured with spikes and polymeric sand to lock the system in
• Concrete step added at basement access for safe, functional entry

Now everything works together. Water is controlled.
The base is stable.
The surface is built to last.
