This front staircase and walkway transformation in the City of Park Ridge focused on restoring both function and character to a 100-year-old home. The original brick entry had deteriorated over time, requiring a full rebuild with improved drainage, structural repairs, and upgraded materials. Tommy Pollina Landscape Co. Inc approached the project with careful planning to ensure durability, proper water management, and a timeless finished look.
Scope of work included:
- Removal of all existing brick and repair of the underlying concrete base
- Tuckpointing of both side wing walls to restore structural integrity
- Installation of a full NDS drainage system with 4” solid PVC to extend downspouts and control water flow
- Demolition and reconstruction of the bottom landing
- Poured new curved concrete steps connecting seamlessly to the top landing
- Installation of rock-faced limestone treads with detailed finishing work
Materials used:
• Unilock Brussels Block (Basalt) for the main paver walkway
• Unilock Copthorne (Basalt) for risers and accent details
• Limestone borders to frame and elevate the entryway design
Final work includes clean transitions where the new Unilock walkway meets the newly paved sidewalk, with railings, pilasters, and columns to follow, completing a restored, functional, and visually striking front entry built to last.
